Progress! Yay!

Today we made progress. And when it happened I almost cried! :) You see, Monkey has had a hard time understanding that for "Yes" he needs to nod. If you asked him to say "Yes" he would violently shake his head "No". This made life difficult because you couldn't tell if he really meant "NO, I don't want that!" or "YES, I do want that!" and the ECI lady told us to just keep saying "Yes" while nodding and making a big show of it and he'd eventually get it.

Today I asked him if he wanted something (I can't remember now what it was) and nodded my head and said "Yes?" And Monkey looked at me and very deliberately (and slightly off-kilter) nodded his head "Yes"! The praising then poured out of me with shouts of "Good job Gideon! Yes! That's right! Yes! That's perfect!" and hugging him tightly. :) Of course 2 minutes later he colored on the carpet with black crayon and I lost a little bit of excitement but that's neither here nor there. (The crayon did come out with a little soap and water - thank you Crayola for making washable crayons!)

Needless to say every chance I got today I would ask him yes/no questions where I was pretty sure the answer would be yes just to see him nod when I would say "Yes?". :) It's still a little "off" - he gets one GOOD nod in and then kind of nods while rolling his head, it's very deliberate - but it's amazing to see and it's such a light of hope that maybe he'll start talking soon. :)

Yes, today we made progress and I hope it continues! :)
