So after 3 weeks of a cough that wouldn't quit we took Monkey to the doctors last Tuesday. Doc says "I think it's a respiratory problem. Let's put him on albuterol and a steroid for the next week, come back in and we'll re-evaluate". Ok, we say. So we go through the week giving the albuterol and steroid as directed and the cough seems to get better but now when he does cough or exert himself playing, whining, crying he has a "barking" kind of coughing noise. So our follow up appointment was yesterday and the doctor was very happy that the coughing got better. Because of that she believes he has asthma. Not what I wanted to hear at ALL. He gets it from me and I feel terrible. :( I'm hoping that she's wrong and that the cough will disappear in the next few weeks. If it isn't gone in a month we'll have to go back and see why the Flovent that he's on now isn't working. I want more than anything for this to be a sickness and not asthma. Something that will go away b/c it's just a cough or a cold not something he'll have to deal with for the rest of his life like I do.
Complicating matters is the fact that Monkey is now army crawling. Yes, the kid has decided mobility is his bag and he's all for it! I fear the day he figures out "Hey, if I get up on my hands AND knees I can go FASTER!" I'm sure it will come sooner than I hope or even anticipate. We're going to have to go out and buy baby gates now. It's all happening so fast! Slow down little Monkey. Slow down!
His teeth are coming in nicely (and are, need I say it, Sharp!). It looks like they're not centered in this photo but that's just because of the way he smiles sometimes. Often when he smiles he moves his jaw to one side. Why? Dunno. I doubt he does either. :)

I hope for his sake it's not asthma either, but sometimes kids grow out of it too. If it makes you feel better, I was diagnosed with asthma when I was 8 or 9 (I kept getting pneumonia and bronchitis every time the temperature dipped). It seemed to be both weather and exercise induced. I still deal with it, but much less now. Who knew back then that I would be able to go from barely being able to running the bases when I hit a homerun to running a marathon!
ReplyDeleteBoth of my brothers and I had asthma as babies and little kids, but we all grew out of it. SO maybe Monkey will too. I can't believe he's nearly 1 either! All my blessings.
